Behind the scenes at Lidl-Trek Winter Camp

This week, we had the privilege of joining the Lidl-Trek team at their winter training camp in sunny Spain.

From giving presentations to record-breaking climbs, we got a front-row seat to how the world’s fastest riders prepare for the 2025 season.

Here’s how it all went down.

Day 1: A Warm Welcome and a Competitive Edge

We kicked off the week by joining Greg Van Avermaet at his place in Calpe to prepare for the day ahead. Armed with a keynote presentation and some festive Ho-Ho-Hot Wax gifts, we headed to the Lidl-Trek camp.

That evening, we presented our keynote to the riders, diving into the performance benefits of hot-waxed chains. The riders were full of great questions, and their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The consensus? They love the fact that their bikes stay clean and fast all the way to the finish line. Mads Pedersen even mentioned that it feels like they have a competitive edge over their rivals.

To end the day on a festive note, every rider received their own Ho-Ho-Hot Wax Christmas gift. It’s not every day you get to combine performance talk with holiday cheer.

Day 2: Coffee, Waxed Chains & Hill Repeats

Day two was all about seeing the Lidl-Trek riders in action. We started the day with a pre-ride coffee—a non-negotiable for pro cyclists—before joining the team for a five-hour training session.

The highlight? Watching the riders tackle hill intervals with precision and power. It’s one thing to talk about hot-waxed chains in theory, but seeing them perform under these conditions was next-level. Smooth, clean, and consistent—just like the riders themselves.

It’s impressive to witness firsthand how every detail, from their legs to their drivetrains, is dialled in for one purpose: winning.

Day 3: Breaking PRs with Greg Van Avermaet

On our final day, Jakob decided to set a challenge of his own: conquering the iconic Coll de Rates climb in under 20 minutes. With none other than Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet as the lead-out, Jakob took on the record attempt.

The result? 19m40s success! Riding with Greg at the front makes for a pretty solid strategy, but we’ll also give some credit to the hot-waxed chain for making every pedal stroke count.

Why we joined Lidl-Trek at Winter Camp

Our time at Lidl-Trek Winter Camp was more than just a few days in the sun. It was a reminder of how attention to detail sets champions apart. From perfectly tuned bikes to top-tier training sessions, every piece of the puzzle matters.

And hot-waxed chains? They’re a small but essential part of that puzzle. Cleaner, faster, and more efficient, they give riders the confidence to focus on the road ahead.

As Lidl-Trek prepares for its 2025 season, we’re proud to be a part of their journey. From the coffee stops to the podium finishes, we’ll be there every step of the way.
