We get a lot of great questions from our Cyclowax community, so we decided to create this FAQ series to share the answers. Today, we’re talking about a common question: Why do you need to renew your wax tablet?

When you wax you do 2 things

  1. Waxing the chain: This adds a protective layer to keep it running smoothly.
  2. Cleaning the chain: Waxing helps remove any dust, dirt, or grime that might have built up during your rides. This keeps your chain cleaner.

How it works

Every time you wax, any dust or dirt that your chain picked up on your ride gets flushed out and trapped in the wax tablet. Over time, these particles build up in the tablet, making it less effective. Here’s why replacing your wax tablet is a good idea.

Waxing and cleaning

Each time you wax, any dust or dirt on your chain gets removed and held in the wax tablet. A fresh tablet helps keep your chain free from grime so it keeps working smoothly.

Keeps your chain fresh

The more you ride and wax, the more particles collect in the tablet. Eventually, the wax tablet can’t trap as much dirt, which means it’s time for a replacement. This helps your chain stay smooth and quiet on every ride.
